Bug Description

Charm builds for charm-vault started failing in CI (https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/charm-vault/+/921914). I replicated the failing charm build locally from the master branch of charm-vault. I found the charm builds fail with this error:

2024-06-13 07:40:46.146506 | focal-medium | Architecture 'amd64-arm64-ppc64el-s390x' is not supported.

I found this bug in the latest version of charmcraft from the latest/edge channel, which charm-vault uses during CI testing. There is a bug report on the charmcraft GitHub reop at https://github.com/canonical/charmcraft/issues/1697.

I found this bug started impacting tests so somewhere between charmcraft snap version 3.0.0.post46+ga44c03e and version 3.0.0.post51+gfb8680e. It is still happening now when I downloaded charmcraft from latest/edge (version 3.0.0.post52+gbcb1903)

After discussing this further with the OpenStack team, we decided the solution is to pin charmcraft to 2.x like we do for other charms until we start building for Noble Numbat. I will work on getting a change up for that pin.
