Bug Description

Many text lines appears bold and distorted when cleartype is enabled. The text will some times flicker between normal and distorted looks (see screenshot).

This bug was also present in beta versions of IE8. I believe it was caused by rendering the same text multiple times.

In this screenshot "Installerer Ubuntu-9.10ubuntu1" and "Kopierer installationsfiler" both exhibit the bug, "Remaining time approximately" will flicker as the installation progresses.

I have this issue on both XP (tested with theme off) and Vista (tested with Areo on).

I have this issue in Windows 7 Home Premium.

Clear type is turned on and the text looks terrible.

I also experience this. I have Windows 7 Ultimate. This makes a bad impression, therefore fixing this is important.

I know very little of Python or Win32 API, but perhaps the problem lies with this line of code?

Perhaps it will suffice to remove the if test and just always run the self.update line.
