Hey
The upstream xsplash tarball doesn't ship autogen.sh gtk-doc.make and build/autotools
I think you just need to list these in EXTRA_DIST in the relevant Makefile.am files. This should help with passing make check.
This shows up when reviewing the package as it's built from bzr which does convey the files, so they turn up in the Debian diff.
