Bug Description

Graphic Design is made of illustration and typography, inkscape is a really good illustration tool, but is a very weak tool when we talk about text. Theres is some urgent features that inkscape should have soon to be a good tool for graphic designers, especially for layout design, I will say some:

- Small Caps (example 1)
- Old style figures and lining figures (example 2)
- Turn ligatures on or off (example 3)
- Kerning should have the same interface as line spacing (I'm a mac user and the "alt" key does not work)
- Superscript and subscript (example 4)
- Column text (the same tool of indesign, you just paste the text one time, than you make a new text box from the previous by clicking on a button in the text first text box.)
- Paragraph spacing should have an interface too
- A window that shows all the glyphs of a typeface with te option to with a double click put that glyph on the text.
- Spacing a block of text, the same way as a paragraph
- More text alignments (example 5)
- Multi pages (with duplicate pages feature)

If these could be inserted on the next version that would be great.
Thanks

Hello,

Just to add a point about ligatures, using libertine font with the:
svg text bellow I have a good display in firefox but no in Inkscape.
Cairo manage internally the text-rendering property but no Inkscape.
Adding this point in Inkscape will be a great improvement for ligatures.

By the way I think that Cairo is not currently abble to display all ligatures as ct et st ones.

Bug #478737 is related. I found that if you attempt to manually add "vertical-align:super;" or any other vertical-align value, both 0.47 and 0.46 strip that attribute out immediately.
