Hi, I've recently reported something that I thought it was a program bug, but it turned out to be a translation bug.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/179596

I corrected the .po file changing the strings that had the wrong translation to fix that bug and attached the file to the report.
I'd like you to consider to commit that change so we can close that bug.

I'm sorry, but the word "Indefinir" you used to correct the translation does not exist in spanish. Could you please explain the differences between "Unset fill/stroke" and "Remove fill/stroke" so that we can find a better translation.
Thank you.

P.s.: Sorry for the spanish reply. :-)

I'm marking my bug report about the remove/unset translation as a duplicate of this in order to reduce de bug count, since this report may work as a meta-bug for the spanish translation.

Lucas:
I just found a string that contains "Desajustar color" as translation of "Unset Paint".
Wouldn't be better to use that word instead of "retirar"?
I found "retirar" too vague for the operation, and not too different than "eliminar".

My 2cents: wouldn't "No definir pintura" be the best alternative to "Unset paint"? Also, I see that in that particular example you translated "paint" as "color", while in the english dialog there are two different terms ("paint" and "color"). The differences are:
- Paint: can be nothing, pattern, flat color or gradient.
- Color: A flat color (i. e.: none of the others),
This should be disambiguated in the Spanish translation too.

Guillermo Espertino (Gez) (gespertino-gmail) wrote :

It's a tricky one :)
Personally, I'd use "fill" instead of "paint" in that command, and in the translation I'd change "pintura" to "relleno".
Then I'd change the command translation to "relleno sin definir" (and "trazo sin definir" for the stroke equivalent).
That would make a real difference between this command and the one for removing the fill, making it easier to understand.

Pablo Trabajos (pajarico) wrote :

I agree :)

The original string should use "Fill" or "Stroke" instead of "Paint". Result:
- No paint (fill tab) -> No fill -> Sin relleno
- Unset paint (fill tab) -> Unset fill -> No definir relleno
- No paint (stroke tab) -> No stroke -> Sin trazo
- Unset paint (stroke tab) -> Unset stroke -> No definir trazo

I think this is what you meant. The problem now is that the color picker (/src/widgets/paint-selector.cpp) shares these strings for both fill and stroke tabs on the Fill & Stroke dialog. So it has to be disambiguated in the code first.

Guillermo Espertino (Gez) (gespertino-gmail) wrote :

Yes, that's exactly what I meant.
The term "fill" is used in the "Fill and Stroke" dialog, and the term "paint" is used somewhere else, apparently meaning the same.
That should be disambiguated and then translated, and in my oppinion, the translation "no definir relleno/trazo" would be the most approriate string for that.

Lucas, I want to proof-read your translation someday soon (preferably before 0.47 release) but I don't want to do the job only to see that you're already preparing the next update. I need you to tell me if you're working on the next update, and if so when you will release it. I would like to proof-read it then, make my corrections and discuss some parts I'm not happy with (for example the translation of "gradient" as "gradiente", sorry, can't let go that one;))

Awaiting your response.
