Bug Description

= My problem =

It seems that (I believe) if the printer is sleeping and I startup my computer (using wireless connection to the printer) the hp-systray actually does not appear on the bottom notification menu. It's strange since I seem it sometimes but I believe that's because the computer is not in sleeping mode.

I checked my settings and I don't have it set to 'hide' when there are no notifications. I have it set to show all the time. Why this is a problem is that if I want to scan a document remotely I cannot since I don't have access to teh systray application. I end up having to kill it and restart it again :/

= My Specs =
Ubuntu 12.04
HP OfficeJet 6700 Version
Installed latest drivers from hplip opensource

Let me know if there are any other questions or debug things I can do to help you out.

Thanks

Shane

Hi,

Thanks for reporting the issue in HPLIP. To help us understand and analyze the issue please follow following things.
=> Download and install the latest HPLIP release from:
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html (automatic) or
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/index.html (manual, if automatic does not work)

=> run "hp-check --fix" command in the terminal if manual installation is done

=> Reconfigure print queue with the commands in the terminal mentioned below.
=> system-config-printer (remove all print queues)
=> hp-setup (It should not be run in a root mode. This command is adding print queue, make sure you select ppd name having "-ps" or "hpcups" substring)
=> hp-toolbox (running this command in the terminal will open device manager. Use it only for scan and fax. Printing should be done from application directly)

=>Try printing/scanning now.

Sorry I neglected to report the version that I was using. Indeed I do have the latest version.

Regardless, I _reinstalled_ just to be sure and followed your setups above.

But _I wanted to point out_ that my issue is in fact not that I *cannot* print as you have stated above. It was that the hp-systray actually doesn't launch when I log in. Printing was always working :)

So if you have any suggestions that would be great. Here's what I did.

1. Reinstalled
2. Ran all steps as outlined above
3. Restarted computer
4. Re-logged in
5. No hp-systray (also after performing "ps aux | grep hp" found no instance of this running?

Thoughts? I thought about adding it to the normal startup applications but after doing that it seems to launch hp-systray three times and still doesn't show up.

I actually ended up adding this to the startup menu and things to be happy at this point. The main problem with this solution is that I end up with about 3 different sessions of this running on my machine....

Hi,

After adding hp-systray to startup menu, does hp-systray icon is appearing on tray?

If it is appearing and 3 processes are being created when ever hp-systray application is started. This is not a issue, hp-systray starts 3 processes.

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath

Hi there,

Yep it appears in the tray properly now in Ubuntu 12.10 (I have upgraded since). So the problem right now with the install is that it doesn't properly add an entry for 12.10 into the startup menu :)

Cheers
