I upgraded to Kubuntu Karmic, which ships HPLIP 3.9.4b, and had no luck. Upgraded to 3.9.8, still no luck.
Than i had an idea: try to connect the printer using the front USB plug (the one near the card reader): IT WORKS!
It's a workaround, but this bug is still here, as in windows the printer works well with the rear USB plug.
