So I added printer by installing old, and apparently wrong packages.
I removed everything (I guess) using the synaptic tool, and history of
added removed packages/drivers

I think I removed everything, and then reinstalled drivers as per your
instructions.
Please note that I am using the so called CAElinux, which is basicly
Ubuntu 8.10, but maybe there is something different causing the problems
/though I doubt it/
I am so lame it's unbeleivable, but when I try to follow your guide I
get the following commands:
linux@kkkk-laptop:~$ usermod -a -G lp caelinux
usermod: unable to lock password file
linux@kkkk-laptop:~$ sudo usermod -a -G lp caelinux
[sudo] password for caelinux:
linux@kkkk-laptop:~$ sudo chown caelinux /dev/bus/usb
linux@kkkk-laptop:~$ su -c "chmod 777 /deb/bus/usb/*"

Sorry for relatively late reply, but I am really busy nowadays.
Looking forward to further advising.
