Bug Description
Running "inkscape newfile.svg" displays an error pop-up with the "Failed to load the requested file newfile.svg" error message. After that, a new inkscape window is opened, with the "New document 1" title. When I draw something and want to save the document (File -> Save), the file selection dialog is opened, with "drawing.svg" as the default file name.
It would be nice to do the same as other UNIX tools do: to allow creating a new file from the command line. I am able to run "vim newfile.txt", enter some text, and save the file named by default "newfile.txt" without further questions. Vim does the sane thing for a file name which does not exist yet.
Please consider changing the "Failed to load the requested file" error message for a non-existent file to an informative message (something like "Editing a new document newfile.svg", and use the command line argument as the file name for saving instead of "drawing.svg".
Thanks!
Known request, duplicate of one of the earlier reports:
- Bug #1265555 “starting inkscape with the name of a nonexistent file should create a new default document”
- Bug #305191 “Opening of a empty file”
P.S.: Please always provide information about OS/platform and Inkscape version (see Inkscape menu 'Help > About Inkscape') when filing reports or feature requests, thx.
