You are talking two things here, aren't you?

Isn't it that you want to get away from the 90dpi standard screen
resolution and base the image export and the 100% zoomlevel on the acutal
screen resolution?

A change from pixels to mm/inch doesn't make sense, usually, does it?

For picture import you usually want 200 or 300 dpi, when you are going for
print. That is something that could be an import option, because resizing
the picture on canvas, what you usually want to do, will chang the
resolution.
