Slingshot freezes when I set my system to Chinese.
It becomes unusable.

Are you using fcitx for your input method?

If you are using fcitx then can you try these two input methods in slingshot instead of fcitx?
1) nimf
$ sudo apt insatll nimf
$ im-config -n nimf
Logiut & login to use

2) uim-pinyin
$ sudo apt install uim uim-pinyin
$ im-config -n uim
Logout & login to use

Settings tool indicator would be shown in wnigpanel
You can set your input key board combination to your favorite there (ex: ctrl + space)
Or try these command

1)nimf
$ nimf-settings

2) uim
$ uim-pref-gtk

And if they works fine in slingshot.
Then go to this report and press this bug affect me button please.
After the check I would ask confirm it and would mark it as duplicate of that report.

Yes, I am using fcitx.
I have tried nimf, it works fine, but we don't use pinyin here, will it support chewing?

uim-chewing works for me, but it doesn't have a indicator, so I don't know whether I am in Chinese mode or not.
