The month view shows a few days into the month before and after the active month. You can create events by clicking a day's number. If you click a day from the preceding or following month, the create event dialog shows the respective day, but of the avtive month, not the one you selected.
Example: While the month view for January is shown, click on "Febuary 2nd". The event creation dialog will show "January 2nd“. Same happens selecting a day of December.
