This problem also exists on xubuntu 9.10 for the ps3. I'm using a "Logitech PlayStation 3 Cordless MediaBoard Pro".

Killing xorg-drivers-input-synaptics helped xorg reconize the keyboard. The only way I'm able to connect to it is via the following command:

sudo hidd --connect <keyboardid>

Everything else, including the GUI tools fail to connect to this keyboard.
