I've tried the "options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1" solution but still get no sound. I can however run sound preferences and hit "test" there to get a silent buzz in the speakers. Without "options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1" the sound preferences window hangs when I click "test" with a message:
"audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument".
