I also added a new kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.33.3-lucid/ based on a tip from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1476007, this has so far been working for me. I've kept the updated wpasupplicant packages also (http://packages.debian.org/sid/wpasupplicant, http://packages.debian.org/sid/libpcsclite1, http://packages.debian.org/sid/libssl0.9.8), not sure if those are strictly necessary.
