I actually had a pretty freshly installed Ubuntu. I also had separate
partitions for home, /usr/local etc so I finally just made a fresh install
and it's been working fine ever since.

I believe it was an interrupted update of some sort that broke my deb-db.

Thanks for taking the.time. Sorry I can't be of any help our shared problem.
