I have tested 3.7-rc4-raring and can confirm that the problem still exists.
Lots of reconnections and horrible performance compared to when booted in Windows 7.

I do have "options ath9k nohwcrypt=1" in /etc/modprobe.d/ath9k.conf, although this problem shouldn't appear with either setting.

There only seems to be 2 patches for the ath9k driver in 3.7-rc4 though according to https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/11/4/151
