I am affected by this bug too.

This morning after automatic updates from software updater my nvidia driver was updated to nvidia-367 and after reboot I got login loop where after inserting password I am returned back to login page.

Not working on 14.04 with kernel 4.4.0-45-generic with drivers 367.57.

Drivers are not even working with older kernel version (tried 4.4.0-42 and 4.4.0-38). Method described by Brendad is not working for me neither.

Currently only open source Nouveau driver is working.
