On Ubuntu 12.04 amd64 with ruby-rvm 1.6.9-0ubuntu2.1, when trying to install Ruby 1.9.3 with RVM I see this:

root@craftermania-ci:~# rvm install 1.9.3
Installing Ruby from source to: /usr/share/ruby-rvm/rubies/ruby-1.9.3, this may take a while depending on your cpu(s)...

Inspecting /usr/share/ruby-rvm/archives/ruby-1.9.3-.tar.bz2 I can see that it contains a 404 message:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
<html><head>
<title>404 Not Found</title>
</head><body>
<h1>Not Found</h1>
<p>The requested URL /pub/ruby/1.9/ruby-1.9.3-.tar.bz2 was not found on this server.</p>
</body></html>

It looks like RVM is creating a wrong URL (as suggested by the '1.9.3-' version string) and then goes on to not notice the 404 error.

to clarify, I'd expect to see:
* A URL that exists be created
* An appropriate error be displayed in the instance where the server responds with a non-200 status displayed.
