This is known as a nvidia-drivers issue. I don't know whether this is Shutter's or the driver's fault, but this only happens to users with nividia gfx-card (proprietary driver, doesn't happen with nv). Unfortunately, I don't have a system to test with.
Are you using a timeout? Does this also happen when setting the timeout to 0?
