Clearly some other people are affected too, not just the two of us. :)
In some of the above links there is a workaround (for snapd case):
apt-get purge snapd apt-get install snapd
After my 1st attempt the problem remained. However after doing the above for a 2nd time the problem went away!
Maybe it picked another non-broken CDN node after the 2nd reinstall? Or something else similar to that?
