I used in the terminal= "sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/defaults.list"
I changed the "eog.desktop" for "foto.desktop" on the Image/(bmp, jpg, jpeg, png, etc..) and after that i went to default applications and found the foto app in the options.. this worked for me, hopefully it will help you
