Same on 12.04.3 with tumbler 0.1.24 when thunar lists a folder with a growing video file.

There are some upstream fixes, that might address this issue (e.g. https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8094). If so, it might be worth backporting/upgrading tumbler in precise.
